Jaguars jump up NFL power rankings entering Week 15

gettyimages-2250564513.jpg

As Week 15 approaches, we rounded up the latest NFL power rankings to get a sense of how the Jaguars are viewed nationally.

CBS Sports: 6 (last week: 8)

From Pete Prisco:

Trevor Lawrence has taken major strides the past two weeks. It’s all starting to click in the new offense.

Pro Football Talk: 7 (9)

From Mike Florio:

They played once at Levi’s Stadium this year. Could they be returning?

ESPN: 8 (13)

From Mike DiRocco:

Most shocking statistical ranking: Wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr . is 50th in receiving yards

Expectations were pretty high for Thomas after a big rookie season — 1,282 yards (third in the NFL) and 10 TDs — but he has had issues catching the ball (five drops) and rookie Travis Hunter moved ahead of Thomas into the No. 1 receiver role by Week 7 before Hunter ‘s season-ending injury. Thomas did miss three games because of an ankle injury and has had five catches for 115 yards in the two games since his return. But the team now views Jakobi Meyers — whom they traded for on Nov. 4 — as its No. 1 wideout. Thomas has 535 receiving yards so far.

USA Today: 9 (9)

From Nate Davis:

They’re holding steady at No. 9 − and now firmly atop the AFC South with fifth-year QB Trevor Lawrence playing his most efficient football of the season heading into the stretch drive.

The Ringer: 9 (11)

From Diante Lee:

Nothing about Jacksonville’s successful season has felt intentional, let alone sustainable, but I think that the Jaguars are turning the corner. Quarterback Trevor Lawrence has finally found a good rhythm in the passing game, his receivers are catching the ball again, and the playoff picture is shaping up for the Jags to win a game or two this postseason.

After saying all that, I’m positive that this team will repay my belief by embarrassing itself in the next couple of weeks.

Fox Sports: 9 (11)

From Ralph Vacchiano:

Beating the Colts was huge and probably wrapped up the AFC South for them. Still, it’s hard not to wonder how the game would’ve played out if Indy hadn’t lost QB Daniel Jones.

NFL.com: 9 (12)

From Eric Edholm:

If you were to ask me to identify Jacksonville’s superpower, I’d probably stumble my way through an answer before mentioning the run defense. But once Daniel Jones was knocked out of Sunday’s game, the Jaguars flexed their muscles and put the Colts away to wrest temporary control of the division. The Texans are coming, but these Jaguars are making things work in Liam Coen’s first season. He might be running third in the Coach of the Year race behind Mike Vrabel and Ben Johnson, but Coen’s offense looked nice early against Indy before slowing down after halftime. All in all, though, this team is playing good football at the right time. Jacksonville has allowed just 13 points per game over the past four, and it’s looking like the Jags could face undrafted rookie Brady Cook at QB when the Jets come to town this Sunday.

Bleacher Report: 10 (10)

From Kris Knox:

The Jaguars took control of the NFC South on Sunday, and there’s a good chance they secure their first division title since 2022 by winning three of their final four games.

With Daniel Jones injured for Indianapolis, the Denver Broncos are probably the only playoff-caliber challenge left on Jacksonville’s schedule. If the Jags don’t play down to the competition against the Colts, Jets and Titans, they’ll host a playoff game.

How Jacksonville actually fares in the postseason will hinge on Trevor Lawrence’s play and the defense’s ability to force turnovers. The Jaguars haven’t won the turnover battle and lost a game since Week 2.

Sports Illustrated: 10 (12)

From Conor Orr:

As wrong as I was about how Ben Johnson’s demeanor was going to translate to leading an NFL locker room, I may have been equally wrong about Liam Coen. Just look at the immaculate vibes taking place here.

Yahoo Sports: 13 (12)

From Frank Schwab:

Sunday changed everything in the AFC South. The Colts lost Daniel Jones, and the Jaguars picked up a critical win. It’s hard to watch the Jaguars and Texans and believe Jacksonville is the better team right now (more on the Texans in a bit) but they do lead the division. The AFC South might come down to whether the Jaguars can beat the Broncos or the Texans can beat the Chargers, because the other remaining games for both teams are all winnable.

The Athletic: 13 (14)

From Josh Kendall and Chad Graff:

The Jaguars’ first-year coach is in a neck-and-neck race with the Bears’ Ben Johnson for the most performative postgame locker room speeches. After Jacksonville won for the fifth time in six games Sunday, Coen looked on the verge of breaking his players’ hands high-fiving. He has the players believing, though. Josh Hines-Allen was even talking about the Super Bowl after recording his seventh sack.

The Jaguars’ average rank this week is 9.6 (last week: 11.2).

Reacts Survey Results: Jaguars fans weigh in on the left tackle battle

This week, we asked Jacksonville Jaguars fans who should start at left tackle between Walker Little and Cole Van Lanen.

78% of respondents went with Van Lanen, who played well in Little’s absence over the past game and a half.

Jacksonville_2_121025.png

When asked on Monday if Van Lanen has done enough to earn a starting spot, a warm “I think so” was head coach Liam Coen’s response. “He’s played enough really good football for us.”

“We’ve got a great situation right now where you’ve got depth at multiple positions of people that have had to play for us a lot. This shows up in multiple positions all throughout the team … the message in the locker room is, ‘Hey guys, there’s a lot of guys that are coming back right now, and for us to continue to go where we want to go, we’ve got to use that as an edge,’ and that depth and experience that we’ve gotten has to be collective and having a team first mindset about everything we do.”

Soooo, I think Little will be starting on Sunday? That’s assuming he’s cleared concussion protocol; Little practiced in full on Thursday and Friday but is listed as questionable for the game. We shall see.

As for the confidence survey, 96% of fans are confident in the direction of the team — tying Week 6 (after the MNF win vs K.C.) for the highest of the season.

Cole has Shined, earned with gritt and great play … He is the Starting Left Tackle until beaten out or replaced because of Injury.
If he is Healthy, he is the Guy. Walker needs to get healthy and then work on his Technique and refine things and Improve.
JaxCommenterGuy
Little has had an underwhelming season after signing a three-year, $40.5 million contract extension last December.
In fairness…he wasn’t exactly overwhelming prior to signing that contract either.
JagsAndYanks
Can’t play the salary game at this point in the season. Go with Cole until he gives you a reason not to.

Jaguars playoff picture: What Week 15 vs. Jets means for AFC standings

gettyimages-2251902420.jpg

The Jaguars entered Week 15 with a 9-4 record and holding onto the top spot in the AFC South. The Texans and Colts are both on their heels at 8-5, and the Colts trotted out literal grandfather Philip Rivers in the hopes of saving their season. The 2-11 Titans, unsurprisingly, are bringing up the rear and are more focused on draft order at this point since they’ve been eliminated from the postseason already.

Because they were leading the division, the Jags were penciled in at the No. 3 seed in the AFC playoff picture heading into this week, and they controlled their own destiny against the Jets with a 48-20 domination. Here’s where things stand for the AFC South after the 1 p.m. slate on Sunday, and for the Jaguars in the overall NFL playoff picture.

Updated AFC South standings

  1. Jacksonville Jaguars 10-4
  2. Houston Texans 9-5
  3. Indianapolis Colts 8-5
  4. Tennessee Titans 2-11

Updated AFC playoff picture

  1. Denver Broncos 11-2
  2. New England Patriots 11-3
  3. Jacksonville Jaguars 10-4
  4. Pittsburgh Steelers 7-6
  5. Buffalo Bills 10-4
  6. Los Angeles Chargers 10-4
  7. Houston Texans 9-5
  8. Indianapolis Colts 8-5
  9. Baltimore Ravens 7-7
  10. Miami Dolphins 6-7

Trevor Lawrence shines as Jaguars destroy Jets at home

imagn-27815394.jpg

For the first time since the 2017 Jacksonville AFC Championship Game appearance season (Myles Jack wasn’t down), the Jacksonville Jaguars have a 10-win season. An explosive 31-point first half effectively wrapped this holiday gift in a bow for the EverBank fanbase, tying for the second-most points in a first half in Jaguars’ history (most in a first half since Week 15 of the 2017 season) and being the seventh straight game the Jaguars have scored 25-plus points in franchise history.

Following Jacksonville’s 48-20 EverBank Stadium victory over the New York Jets, the Jaguars remain in the driver’s seat in AFC South play and third in the AFC. Here’s everything you need to know from Jacksonville’s Week 15 win over the Jets.

Pregame Notes:

As the Jaguars’ roster continues to heal up week by week following the bye, the most notable inactive on Sunday was left tackle Walker Little. After leaving Jacksonville’s week 13 victory over the Tennessee Titans with concussion symptoms, Little was held out of the week 14 victory over the Colts. Walker cleared the concussion protocol on Thursday, allowing him to be a full practice participant on Friday. However, he reportedly experienced a setback, complaining of concussion symptoms afterward, resulting in another starting opportunity for Duval favorite, swing tackle Cole Van-Lanen.

Linebacker Yasir Abdullah, tight end Hunter Long, defensive linemen Emmanuel Ogbah and Austin Johnson rounded out the Jacksonville inactives with Parker Washington active following his week 14 absence with a hip injury suffered against Tennessee.

New York went with UDFA quarterback Brady Cook as the starter against Jacksonville, with starting quarterback Justin Fields and Tyrod Taylor both dealing with injuries and unable to practice this week. Additionally, tight end Mason Taylor and defensive lineman Mazi Smith were both inactive, along with wide receiver Tyler Johnson, edge Braiden McGregor, and linebacker Kiki Mauigoa. Rookie Jets CB AZ Thomas was placed on IR this week, joining WR Garret Wilson, S Andre Cisco, and slot CB Jarvis Brownlee Jr.

The following Jacksonville players left Sunday’s game due to injury:

  • DL Danny Striggow (angle)
  • RB Bhayshul Tuten (finger)

Game Recap

Trevor Lawrence and the Jacksonville passing game with a dominant 9-play, 72-yard drive where the Jaguars faced no third downs, as Lawrence went 5-6 on the drive for 52 yards, capped with an impressive, tight-window, four-yard touchdown throw to Brian Thomas Jr. (Jaguars 7-0)

The equally feisty Jacksonville defense immediately stopped the Jets offense for a quick four-and-out following a Travon Walker tackle for loss on Jets RB Breece Hall on fourth down, as Aaron Glenn chose to pass on punting the ball from midfield.

Jacksonville, again, quickly moved into scoring range, with Lawrence doing it with his legs, scoring on a 15-yard rush following a 21-yard completion to Jakobi Meyers to enter the redzone. (Jaguars 14-0)

The Jets offense bounced back, showing signs of life after falling to 14-0, with undrafted free agent, third-string Jets QB Brady Cook heating up, going 4-4 on the drive for 44 yards, with RB Breece Hall also ripping off a 13-yard first down conversion. (Jaguars 14-7)

The scorching hot Jacksonville passing game continued its onslaught after being set up in prime position to start the drive after a 43-yard Bhayshul Tuten kick return. The offense, again faced no third downs on the drive, picked up chunk plays of 19 yards (via a Jakobi Meyers reception) and a nifty schemed-up 16-yard Tuten touchdown reception. The 5-play, 55-yard drive took just 2:33, as the Jaguars regained their 14-point home lead. (Jaguars 21-7)

0-9 yards: 2/3, 22 yards
10-19 yards: 6/6, 86 yards, 2 TD

— Benjamin Solak (@BenjaminSolak) December 14, 2025

Jacksonville’s first three drives:

  • 5 plays, 55 yards (2:33) – Touchdown
  • 5 plays, 38 yards (2:22) – Touchdown
  • 9 plays, 72 yards (4:42) – Touchdown

As noted by BCC’s Gus Logue, Lawrence’s only incompletions on the opening three scoring drives were a throwaway on a called screen and a drop by tight end Brenton Strange, with Lawrence holding a 151.2 passer rating at that time.

The Jaguars’ defense forced a quick Jets punt, which Jacksonville answered with one of their own on the following drive. However, the Jaguars’ punt, from their own endzone was returned for a negated touchdown by returner Isaiah Williams. The score was called back for an illegal block out of bounds penalty, with the Jets eventually settling for a field goal on the drive. (Jaguars 21, Jets 10)

After a Jets kickoff out of bounds, Lawrence, for the third game in a row, completed an impossible throw on the move, this one to Parker Washington for a 33-yard gain, as the offense drove into the Jets’ redzone.

Cam Little capped the 10-play, 45-yard, 3:30 drive with a 33-yard field goal to regain the 14-point lead. (Jaguars 24, Jets 10)

Just two plays later, CB Montaric Brown got the ball back for the Jacksonville offense at midfield, corralling an impossible interception at the Jets’ 47-yard line with 1:07 left in the half and with three timeouts remaining.

Trevor Lawrence, Liam Coen, and Co. continued to shred this Jets man-coverage defense, exploiting the lack of defenders with eyes on the quarterback with Trevor hitting explosive plays of a 20-yard rush, followed by a 12-yard pass to Parker Washington, capped by a 20-yard touchdown pass to Travis Etienne (over former Jaguars LB Quincy Williams). BJ Green joined the EverBank party, collecting his first (official) sack on Cook, bringing down the rookie quarterback on first down. Following a Jets turnover on downs, Cam Little added a field goal to confirm the 40-Burger. The make awarded Little the title of the youngest player in NFL history to hit 50 career field goals. (Jaguars 41, Jets 13)

Per ESPN, Sunday’s matchup was the first time the Jaguars scored 40 points before the fourth quarter since 2005 Week 17 2005 against the Tennessee Titans. However, the 41 total points are the most the Jaguars have scored before the fourth quarter since the 2000 season (Week 14 against the Browns).

Following a 5-play, 65-yard touchdown drive by the Jets, Lawrence and Etienne weren’t done, securing the sixth touchdown for Lawrence and third receiving TD for Etienne, on the ever-elusive Jacksonville screen play. (Jaguars 48, Jets 20)

Following another forced punt by the Jacksonville defense, Lawrence hung his helmet up with 10:32 left in the fourth quarter. With Nick Mullens taking over, WR Dyami Brown fumbled a rushing attempt back to the Jets on the next series. However, the Jaguars’ defense bailed him out, as Ventrell Miller intercepted an ill-advised pass by Cook in the endzone to end the Jets’ drive – his first career interception. Following the Jacksonville punt, Antonio Johnson came up with Brady Cook’s third interception of the day to wrap the game up – Jacksonville’s 26th takeaway of 2025 (second in the NFL).

Best highlight:

Post-game notables:

1. This Trevor Lawrence/Liam Coen marriage looks to be the real deal

While it’s been bubbling for some time, for even the staunchest Trevor Lawrence critic, it’s hard to deny that this growth for Lawrence in this Liam Coen offense is real and here to stay. Lawrence cooked on Sunday, with six total touchdowns, no true turnover-worthy throws, and he likely could have had even more had the Jets’ offense been a respectable unit on Sunday. It was easily Trevor’s sharpest day at the office, a phrase we have now said no less than three times since the Jaguars’ week 8 bye week. The arrow is pointing up, folks.

2. Jaguars defense handles business

Giving up 20 points to the shell of a Jets’ offensive roster is hardly an accomplishment in most circumstances. However, after going up 14-0 early in the game, there are few points where one could realistically say the Jaguars’ defense truly struggled in this one. They gave up a first quarter touchdown drive much too easily, which showed some issues slowing down the Jets’ run and play action game. Outside of that drive, it was truly business as usual for Campanile’s unit. A 3-interception, 3-sack day where you hold Breece Hall to 23 yards rushing on 12 carries will almost always result in a Sunday victory.

3. Can they do it when the game is on All-Madden mode?

The Jaguars have convincingly answered the question, “Can they dominate the NFL’s cellar?” since the bye week. They have even thoroughly dominated the AFC favorite Los Angeles Chargers during this stretch. A huge test lingers on the horizon with the AFC second seed Broncos on Sunday in Denver. Coen’s unit will finally have an opportunity to prove they earn the respect that has been withheld.

Report: Jaguars RB Bhayshul Tuten to undergo surgery

gettyimages-2250559096.jpg

Coming off of their dominant 48-20 victory over the New York Jets, Jaguar fans were in the midst of celebrating the franchise’s first 10-win season since 2017, when news dropped that another injury had befallen the Jaguars’ rookie class.

#Jaguars rookie RB Bhayshul Tuten will undergo surgery to repair a finger injury suffered in yesterday’s win over the #Jets, sources tell me and @RapSheet. He’ll miss a few weeks but should be back for the playoffs. pic.twitter.com/pcAiuxrPq8

— Mike Garafolo (@MikeGarafolo) December 15, 2025

Running back Bhayshul Tuten exited Sunday’s game during the second half after rushing for seven yards on one carry and scoring on a 16-yard second-quarter reception.

— NFL (@NFL) December 14, 2025

Throughout 2025, Tuten has rushed for 78 carries for 284 yards, a 3.6-yard per carry average, while scoring four rushing touchdowns with one fumble lost. He also brought in another two receiving touchdowns on 10 receptions for 79 yards, in relief of starter Travis Etienne.

With the report noting that Bhayshul is expected to return from the finger surgery recovery by the playoffs, the team could opt to primarily lean on rookie LeQuint Allen Jr. in the interim, while possibly calling up preseason favorite Ja’Quinden Jackson from the practice squad. It also wouldn’t be a shock were the team to decide to bring in another back as an alternative option. No matter what they decide, based on this report, Tuten’s explosiveness and versatility will not be on display on Sunday in Denver at the very least.

With Tuten’s recent injury, Jacksonville’s rookie class currently reflects:

  • 1st Round: CB/WR Travis Hunter – IR
  • 3rd Round: S Caleb Ransaw – IR
  • 3rd Round: OL Wyatt Milum – backup OL
  • 4th Round: RB Bhayshul Tuten – reported finger surgery pending (not season-ending)
  • 4th Round: LB Jack Kiser – backup LB and special teams player
  • 6th Round: LB Jalen McLeod – IR
  • 6th Round: S Rayaun Lane III – special teams ace and safety depth
  • 7th Round: OL Jonah Monheim – OL depth at multiple positions
  • 7th Round: RB LeQuint Allen Jr. – passing down specialist and special teams ace

Jaguars vs Broncos: Week 16 opening odds

The Jacksonville Jaguars (10-4) will hop on a jet and travel to rocky Colorado to face the Denver Broncos (12-2) at 4:05 p.m. EST on Sunday, Dec. 21.

According to FanDuel Sportsbook, the Jaguars are 3-point underdogs and the total is set at 45.5 points.

Home-field advantage is typically worth 3 points, so you could say that this would be an even matchup on a neutral field.

This is an important game for two main reasons, the first being playoff implications.

Current probabilityProbability with a winProbability with a loss
To make the playoffs99%99%97%
To win the division61%82%43%
To get the No. 1 seed11%26%1%

More importantly, it’ll be a litmus test for how the Jaguars perform against top competition before Liam Coen’s first postseason as head coach.

“We know the challenge that we have going out west this week against a very high-quality opponent,” Coen said immediately after Jacksonville’s most recent win.

“Yes, we’ve won these last X amount of games and execute at a high level, but when you continue to elevate and raise the standard of performance, of practice, of preparation, … that’s what I think is fun about this group. They don’t want to just say, man, that was a good win. We can kind of hang back and not go to work this week. They want to continue to be intentional about their efforts, about taking care of their bodies and doing it together. It’s a group that cares about each other. We all do. I think coaches and players alike.

“There’s still so much room to continue to grow as a team. As you get into December, playing your best football is very important. We have another opportunity to go do that this [coming] Sunday.”

So it seems like the Jaguars are getting hot at the right time, huh?

In the first year under head coach Liam Coen, the Jacksonville Jaguars are going to finish with a winning record. The team secured that after a 48-20 ass-kicking over the New York Jets. Sunday’s win moved the team to 10-4 overall, kept them a game up on the AFC South, and put them in striking position for a top overall seed in the AFC.

There are plenty of highlights from Sunday’s game, but none are bigger than Trevor Lawrence’s first-of-its-kind stat line.

Trevor Lawrence is the only player in NFL history with 5+ pass TDs, 1+ rush TD & 50+ rush yards in a single game 🔥@Jaguars | #DUUUVAL pic.twitter.com/0xOE9zbqnW

— NFL+ (@NFLPlus) December 14, 2025

Lawrence’s six total touchdowns and over 300 yards passing was a thing of beauty. It has now been three straight weeks of Lawrence “playing the best game of his career,” which is exactly the type of thing you want from your franchise quarterback heading into the playoffs.

Firing on all cylinders is an understatement to describe the Jags right now. Regardless of the opponent, they are crushing people. And now it’s on to the biggest test of all against the AFC’s second-best squad: the Denver Broncos.

WINNERS

Trevor Lawrence

You’ve seen the box score. You know what he did.

On Sunday, Lawrence posted a stat line that quite literally has never been seen before. His 5 passing touchdowns, 300+ passing yards, 1 rushing touchdown, and 50+ rushing yards has never been done by an NFL quarterback. Ever. Until this past weekend.

Cam Newton never did this. Mike Vick never did either. Or Jalen Hurts with all his weapons. Not even Patrick Mahomes has hit that stat line. Just Lawrence.

When asked if his former Clemson teammate is playing his best football, Travis Etienne said he has never seen Lawrence hit this kind of stride. Even Coen is lighting up when he gets to throw praise towards his quarterback.

We’ve talked at length all over Big Cat Country about how the acquisition of wide receiver Jakobi Meyers has unearthed the excellence that lay dormant in this offense. But it’s starting to go beyond that.

The running backs are playing well because the offensive line is playing well. The offensive scheme is good so the receivers are constantly open. The tight ends are blocking so everyone has time and room. And the quarterback is hitting everyone (minus maybe that one weird throwaway in the end zone).

Everything is working in tandem right now, and you can give a ton of that credit to the quarterback. He was, and largely rightfully, given a lot of grief at the beginning of the year for making the same boneheaded mistakes that plagued him through his pro career. He’s had a lot of different coordinators and coaches in his ear throughout his time in the league, but now it looks like he finally has one that fits. Coen always said the scheme was tough to learn and it would take a while. It turns out he was right. In the end, we are all better for it.

You can say the Jags haven’t played the greatest of opponents in the past three weeks. But whatever. Making this type of throw two weeks in a row doesn’t just happen because you are playing the pathetic Jets. This type of throw is something else entirely.

This guy Trevor Lawrence is pretty good at football.

Travis Etienne

Speaking of the former Clemson star, the Jags sort of have to re-sign this guy, right?

All Etienne has done under Coen is excel in both the run and pass game, which are the traits that got Etienne to the first round of the draft anyway. On Sunday, Etienne had 32 rushing yards. Most importantly, he led the team in receiving with three catches for 73 yards and a trio of touchdowns. What a day.

Etienne is now just 51 yards short of 1,000 yards rushing for the year. He is under 50 yards short of 300 yards receiving as well.

Whatever Coen has done to unlock this guy has absolutely worked this season. Last week, we said Etienne may be the odd man out when the Jags start giving out contracts this summer. After Sunday, he might have earned himself a seat at the table.

Jakobi Meyers

A guy who has to get paid, though, will be Jakobi Meyers.

Meyers led the team in catches with five and finished second on the team in receiving with 71 yards, just two short of Etienne.

There wasn’t a single defensive player on the Jets who had an answer for Meyers getting open across the middle. There has hardly been a defensive player in the league since Meyers got to Jacksonville who has had an answer for him.

Simply put, vote this man to the Pro Bowl. And the rest of the Jags! He has changed my life. I can almost guarantee he has changed yours.

Offensive Line Play

It’s hard for a guy like Lawrence to have the day he did without a solid front ahead of him. On Sunday, Lawrence’s offensive line certainly did some work.

The Jets legitimately have no one up front to cause any problems. Regardless, it was yet another zero-sack afternoon for the Jags offensive line. The Jets had just two quarterback hits and two TFLs all day. It was the second straight week that the Jags offensive line has kept the quarterback free of sacks. It was also the fifth such game of the season.

Everyone knows the injuries that the Jags have had, and have, up front but it has mattered little recently. Sorry, Walker Little, but Cole Van Lanen is here to stay and is looking great on the left side.

All anyone could have asked for from this group was mediocre play. The Jags are getting far better than that. Everything has to work in tandem to win, especially late in the year. We are seeing that with the Jaguars’ offense, especially up front.

— Jacksonville Jaguars (@Jaguars) December 15, 2025

The Secondary

It was another multi-interception afternoon for the Jags, led by the Duval secondary.

Montaric Brown snagged another diving interception, the second of his year, while Antonio Johnson added another pick of his own.

The Jets didn’t have a receiver eclipse 60 yards as rookie quarterback Brady Cook finished with just 176 yards passing. Eric Murray was blasting heads earlier and finished the day with a sack and two tackles for loss. Andrew Wingard and Murray finished tied for second on the team in tackles. Dewey even added a TFL of his own, as did Christian Braswell.

This secondary might not scare anyone based on name recognition alone but they are playing in tandem just as much as the offense is. With the defensive line catching fire and the linebackers blanketing the middle of the field, the secondary can hunt. It’s absolutely working.

Montaric Brown my GOODNESS!

Special Teams

The Jags have a really good special teams unit. Plain and simple.

Kicker Cam Little nailed both of his field goals Sunday and all six of his extra points. Used only twice, punter Logan Cooke averaged 52 yards a punt. LeQuint Allen put down a 50-yard kickoff return. Bhayshul Tuten averaged 31 yards per kick return.

It’s the little things sometimes. Special teams are traditionally such little things. However, they made an impact and this unit did its job as it has tended to do all season long.

Liam Coen

Ok, I think it is fair to say that Coen is figuring it out.

The Jacksonville Jaguars do not traditionally have winning seasons, at least not in recent memory. That’s just a fact.

Yet in the first year under Coen, despite problems with injuries and penalties, this team will secure a winning season and is almost guaranteed a playoff spot. What a freaking turnaround.

You can visibly see that this team embodies the nature of their coach. You can audibly see that the team rallies around the ball and rallies around one another. The postgame celebrations in the locker room are genuine and intense. It all looks good. That starts with the head coach.

No one knows what lies ahead for Jacksonville. But we can start to see that winning and a standard of making the playoffs is going to be the bar for future seasons.

The penalties still happen and there is always room for improvement, but I cannot sit here and say I don’t believe in what the guy is preaching and putting into his players when you hear him speak postgame.

Liam Coen is only 4 wins away from tying Gus Bradley for 5th all time in wins as a Jags HC.

Al’s Pizza

That’s three interceptions, folks, that third one courtesy of a pick from linebacker Ventrell Miller.

Hug your family. Buy that jersey you’ve always wanted. Rejoice in the Jags being good. And do so around some Al’s Pizza because it’s funny at this point. It’s cold. Warm yourself up with Al’s.

LOSERS

Dyami Brown

Yeah, ok, this guy is cooked.

I almost didn’t want to add a loser this week to take away from how fun the game was, but here we are. The Brown signing made sense. The Jags needed someone like him before they knew what they could get in someone like Jakobi Meyers. Or dare I say even Tim Patrick…?

A Chrysler 300 looks like a Rolls-Royce Phantom till a Phantom rolls up. It’s time to see this Chrysler off. Thanks for a couple of cool plays, I suppose, Dyami Brown.

Yikes… Dyami Brown

Last thing he needed was to fumble on his first touch since Week 9 vs the #Raiders.

Reacts Survey: Are you surprised by Trevor Lawrence’s recent play?

gettyimages-2252096479.jpg

Welcome to SB Nation Reacts, a survey of fans across the NFL. Throughout the year we ask questions of the most plugged-in Jaguars fans and fans across the country. Sign up here to participate in the weekly emailed surveys.

Jaguars fans — are you confident the team is headed in the right direction?

And are you surprised by Trevor Lawrence’s recent play, or did you know it was in him all along?

Lawrence has been on fire in the five games since Jacksonville’s Week 10 collapse in Houston.

Here are his stats in that span, via PFF:

  • 13 passing touchdowns (1st)
  • 8.6 yards per attempt (1st)
  • 11.3 average depth of target (2nd)
  • 90.0 PFF grade (2nd)
  • 8.0 big-time throw rate (3rd)
  • 107.0 passer rating (3rd)

“I thought he was very accurate with the football,” head coach Liam Coen said after Lawrence’s 6 total touchdown performance in Week 15. “Started hot, allowing these guys to be able to catch and run, especially over the middle of the field. The vertical throws I thought were very impressive.

“Very proud of Trevor and his preparation, the way that he’s practiced, the way that he’s continued to lead our offense and do what we’re asking him to do at a high level, though. He’s playing at a high level right now.”

I’ve written numerous feature-length articles about Lawrence over the years, all essentially saying, “He’s good, I swear!” So I’m feeling pretty vindicated this week. What about you?

Jaguars vs Broncos key matchups: dominant Denver o-line poses difficult challenge

gettyimages-2252096491.jpg

The Jacksonville Jaguars head to Mile High Stadium on Sunday to take on the high-flying Denver Broncos. Here are three battles to keep an eye on:

Josh Hines-Allen vs Garrett Bolles

Josh Hines-Allen since the Jaguars' bye week:

🐆 34 pressures (1st)
🐆 5.5 sacks (5th)
🐆 20.3% win rate (4th) pic.twitter.com/H7AiQ4Vroh

— PFF (@PFF) December 1, 2025

The Broncos have benefitted from one of the best offensive lines in the NFL this season. Previously beset by injury, Bo Nix’s protection has managed to stay healthy in 2025, and the benefit to their second year quarterback has been obvious. Last week Denver faced probably their toughest test of the year hosting the Green Bay Packers, and they were watertight against fierce pressure; posting a league-best 91.9 PFF pass-blocking efficiency rating for Week 15.

The standout star on Sunday – and perhaps most surprising for the Broncos in 2025 – has been left tackle Garett Bolles. Bolles didn’t give up one pressure the whole game and had a pass blocking grade of 90.9 himself. That elite level of play allowed Nix to tear apart one of the best defenses in the NFL to the tune of 300 yards and 4 touchdowns.

After a slow start to the campaign, Josh Hines-Allen has warmed up, and heads into Sunday’s matchup with seven sacks and a safety in his last seven games. Perhaps we can blame the early season lethargy on the Jags’ switch to a four-man front under Anthony Campanile, but Hines-Allen now seems to be back to his very best. He missed training on Wednesday due to an illness, but should be back for Sunday. The Jaguars will need to get pressure on Nix if they want to win this game and take another step towards the playoffs.

Jakobi Meyers vs Patrick Surtain

Patrick Surtain flies in for the diving INT 👀

— NFL (@NFL) December 14, 2025

If you’re looking for an elite matchup on the outside on Sunday, then this game has the potential to deliver one of the best of the season. Jakobi Meyers has been a revelation since being acquired from the Las Vegas Raiders after Week 9, with 355 yards and three touchdowns in his six games so far. It’s no exaggeration to say his arrival has helped unlock this passing game, with Trevor Lawrence enjoying throwing to his new weapon; Meyers has an outrageous 71.1% catch rate since coming to Jacksonville.

Meyers will have his work cut out for him against the Broncos. Patrick Surtain is widely considered to be the best corner in the NFL right now, and his level of play in 2025 backs that claim up; prior to a pectoral injury suffered in Week 9, Surtain had not surrendered a touchdown all year or allowed a reception beyond 12 air yards. His effectiveness is such that teams avoid throwing his way, likely the only reason he’s had just one interception in 11 games this season – which came against the Packers last week.

It remains to be seen if Surtain will travel with Meyers considering the Jags also have Brian Thomas on the outside for the Broncos to consider. But it will be worth a watch when these two go up against each other.

RJ Harvey vs Foye Oluokun

RJ Harvey scored just once through the first 6 weeks of the season.

— Underdog (@Underdog) December 17, 2025

With JK Dobbins on injured reserve with a serious foot injury, the Broncos are likely to keep faith with rookie running back RJ Harvey this Sunday. Harvey suffered a rib injury against the Packers last weekend, going off in the fourth quarter. He didn’t return and was questionable for the Jags game, but was a full participant in Wednesday’s practice and looks set to suit up.

An increased workload the last two games has seen Harvey post 140 yards and two scores on a Sean Payton offense that is firing on all cylinders right now. Key to that successful ground game has been the superior run blocking of Quinn Meinerz, who is grading out by PFF as the best interior lineman in the NFL (93.9).

The Jaguars’ impressive win against the New York Jets on Sunday hid a sneakily porous run defense; whilst they shut down Breece Hall, Isaiah Davis (and also a scrambling Brady Cook) were able to average 6.5 yards a carry. Whilst I don’t consider this anything other than an anomaly against a change of pace running back, Campanile will want to put more pressure on Denver’s passing game by keeping Harvey in check. Foye Oluokun has once again cracked 100 tackles for the season, the sixth year in a row he has achieved such a feat. And he recently went over 1,000 for his career, joining the ranks of Ray Lewis, Junior Seau, Zach Thomas and Derrick Brooks. He’ll be tasked with shutting Harvey down and making Payton’s offense as one-dimensional as possible.

Jaguars’ Cole Van Lanen’s versatility has him dominating in 4th OL spot this season

imagn-25091013.jpg

Throughout the 2025 NFL season, SB Nation’s Doug Farrar will write about the game’s Secret Superstars — those players whose performances might slip under the radar for whatever reasons. In this installment, we focus on Jacksonville Jaguars offensive lineman Cole Van Lanen, who has become one of those rare players who can line up just about anywhere and make things better.

If you’ve watched “Sons of Anarchy,” Kurt Sutter’s outstanding biker drama series (and if you haven’t, I HIGHLY recommend it), you know why none of the guys in SAMCRO ever wanted to go Nomad. For bikers, Nomad meant that they had no home, no home charter, and no brothers to protect them on a day-to-day basis. They were roaming the earth without connection.

It’s entirely possible that the NFL’s version of a Nomad is the offensive lineman who is required to flip positions multiple times in a season. In these cases, continuity is obviously upset, assignments and responsibilities change at lightning speed, and if you fall apart, you’re falling apart all over the place. As much as the truly great offensive linemen are highly regarded for their ability to dominate at one or two positions, those linemen who can move from spot to spot in the blink of an eye are coveted by their teammates and coaches, even when the general public doesn’t know their names.

Cole Van Lanen of the Jaguars has become perhaps the NFL’s ultimate Nomad. Selected in the sixth round of the 2021 draft by the Green Bay Packers out of Wisconsin, Van Lanen barely played for his first NFL team in his rookie year, with a grand total of one regular-season snap. The Packers signed him to a reserve/future contract in January, 2022, but then traded him to the Jags in August, 2022 for a seventh-round draft pick in 2023.

Van Lanen was also a bit player with the Jags in 2022 and 2023, totaling 71 snaps at right guard and right tackle. It wasn’t until 2024 that he became more of an integral part of the offense, with 252 total snaps — 187 at left tackle, 60 at right tackle, and five as the sixth offensive lineman in the team’s jumbo packages. Overall, he allowed one sack and nine total pressures.

More importantly, in the transition from Doug Pederson to Liam Coen, Van Lanen impressed enough people in the building for the new staff to give him more reps. Van Lanen struggled with a shoulder issue in the preseason, but Coen had already seen enough to keep an eye on the guy.

“Yeah, Cole, I think it’s usually when an O-lineman isn’t getting noticed all that much, they’re doing a good job,” Coen said on Sept. 5. “I don’t want to say he’s the definition of that, but that kind of happens with him where it’s just he does his job and he does his job above average. So, you’re like, man, this guy can step in and be able to help us at multiple positions. So, I’ve always been pleased with his commitment to the guys and to the plan, the way he kind of goes about his business, I’ve been pleased with. He’s a good dude to be around. It was a shame that he was really playing well when he got banged up, but it’ll be great to get him back into the fold and get him some quality reps with those guys.”

Van Lanen displayed his versatility with credible reps at left guard, right guard, and right tackle, but it wasn’t until starting left tackle Walker Little suffered a concussion in Week 13 against the Tennessee Titans that he really started showing off. Van Lanen got 35 left tackle snaps against Tennessee after Little’s concussion, and he started there in Week 14 against the Indianapolis Colts, and in last Sunday’s 48-20 demolition of the New York Jets.

.@Jaguars OL Cole Van Lanen (No. 70) getting it done this season at left tackle, left guard, right guard, and right tackle.

All in a day's work for this guy. pic.twitter.com/8hTgqgM9SK

— Doug Farrar ✍ (@NFL_DougFarrar) December 16, 2025

Is it a coincidence that Van Lanen’s games at left tackle have aligned with a three-game stretch in which Trevor Lawrence has completed 53 of 89 passes for nine touchdowns, no interceptions, and a passer rating of 123.0? Well, given that Little had allowed nine sacks and 29 total pressures in 472 pass-blocking reps, and Van Lanen has allowed no sacks and three total pressures in 161 pass-blocking reps at left tackle, it probably helps.

Left guard Ezra Cleveland, who has obviously lined up right next to Van Lanen on those left tackle snaps, talked on Monday about his teammate’s rare versatility.

“Yeah, I’ve never done it personally and I don’t think a lot of O-linemen have actually done it,” Cleveland said. “But to play at the level he’s playing at, what is it, four different positions now? Yeah, I’m pretty sure it’s unheard of. [OL] Pat Mekari has a little bit of experience doing that too, so he could answer it a little better. But besides those two, I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone do that. So, it’s really cool that he’s doing it, and it’s fun to be to be a part of it, and play next to him, and see what he’s doing to prepare in the offensive line room, and be a part of it.”

Last week, offensive coordinator Grant Udinski perfectly summarized the value of Van Lanen’s versatility.

“In the NFL, I’ve probably mentioned this a couple of times, you know you’re going to go through the whole year and probably not be able to start the same five guys for every single snap for the whole year. So, it’s really important that that room specifically to have a unit of guys that you feel can go out and start. Because whether you like it or not, at some point we’re going to need it. We did need it, and he went out and answered the bell as he went out there in multiple positions in different weeks and did it. So, it’s a testament to the preparation, the work, and it’s a huge luxury for us as coaches to have that depth in that room. And not only to have that depth, to have that cohesion in the room where the guys who can start, you’ve got eight guys, sometimes seven guys, you can still feel good about starting five no matter what the mix and match is. That’s awesome.”

It is awesome, though the Jaguars’ offensive line faces a severe test this Sunday in the Denver Broncos’ demonic, multi-dimensional pass rush. No matter where he is in the mix, Cole Van Lanen will be happy to help.

The news was broken on Thursday afternoon by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, who reports that Meyers will earn $60 million ($40 million guaranteed) on his new deal.

For context, the Jaguars signed Christian Kirk to a four-year, $72 million deal ($37 million guaranteed) in 2022.

Meyers’ new contract ranks 24th among NFL receivers in total value and 25th in average per year, per Over The Cap.

Seems like a pretty good deal for a guy who ranks eighth among all NFL players in first down catches (19) since being acquired by Jacksonville at the 2025 NFL trade deadline six weeks ago. Meyers also ranks 12th in PFF receiving grade (80.8) and 15th in yards per route run (2.12) out of 85 qualifying wideouts in that span.

Since Meyers came to town, the Jaguars have a 5-1 record and rank second with 31.8 points per game (behind only the Rams), Trevor Lawrence ranks second in the NFL with 12 passing touchdowns (behind only Matthew Stafford), and Brian Thomas Jr. leads the league with 20.1 yards per reception. Meyers was clearly the missing piece to Liam Coen’s offense.

“Just an obvious connection between he and Trevor early on. You could feel that there was chemistry there,” Coen said Friday. “Guy that’s prepared like a true pro since he’s got here … really happy for the guy.”

“The most important thing is, his teammates really like him, the offensive line loves him, and that’s usually where you can kinda check the moral compass of the person … we always want to play the person, not the player in a lot of ways, right. And his teammates love him.”

Hat tip to the front office for prioritizing a Meyers contract before he was set to hit free agency. It’ll be interesting to see whether they do the same for players like Devin Lloyd, Travis Etienne, Cole Van Lanen, etc.

Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Denver Broncos Week 16 stats, matchup preview

As the Jacksonville Jaguars (10-4) prepare to face the Denver Broncos (12-2) in Week 16, we sat down with Ian St. Clair of Mile High Report to learn more about the opposing side.

Question 1: What are some of the first reasons that come to mind as to why the Broncos have the best record in football?

The biggest reason is Sean Payton. Since his arrival in Denver, he has completely changed the culture within the organization. Prior to Payton’s hiring by the Broncos, this franchise couldn’t have found its way back to relevance if it had a map and a compass. But in his three seasons, he’s proven he’s one of the best coaches in the NFL. Connected to that is Payton, George Paton, and the Broncos ownership group, led by Greg Penner, are aligned on the same goal to make this the best team and franchise in the league. Having that synergy throughout the franchise is a massive reason Denver is where it is right now. Of course, the players have to do it on the field, and that starts with Bo Nix and an elite defense. The players have bought in, and they’re aligned with Payton and his expectations. Hence why the Broncos have the best record in the league right now.

Question 2: What are some areas of concern for this team, if any, as it prepares for its second straight playoff berth?

As is the case with any team at this point in the season, it’s health. To make a deep run in the playoffs, teams need to stay injury-free. Obviously, that’s not something teams can control, but it’s always top of mind. The other thing is consistency on both sides of the ball. If the Broncos play the way they did in the second half of their win over the Green Bay Packers, no team is beating them. So consistency is the key from here on out.

Question 3: What would you categorize as the top strengths and weaknesses of Bo Nix’s game at this point in his young career?

Let’s focus on the most recent game to find the answer. Nix is coming off the best game of his career. In the win over the Packers, he was 23-for-34 passing for 302 yards and four touchdowns. He also added 10 yards rushing on seven carries. And while the stats are off the charts, they still don’t do justice to just how good Nix was in the win over Green Bay. Nix wasn’t sacked despite some hairy moments in the pocket. He also didn’t commit any turnovers. And when the Broncos needed big-time throws, Nix delivered. Now, can he do it again? Can Nix stack great performances on each other? To go from good to great or even elite, he needs to do what he did against the Packers this Sunday. That’s where he put it all together for the first time.

Question 4: Who’s an under-the-radar player or two that Jaguars fans should watch for on Sunday?

On defense, it’ll be the replacement of safety Brandon Jones. Whether it’s P.J. Locke or JL Skinner, or perhaps someone else, keep an eye out for who replaces Jones this weekend. My guess is that it’ll be Locke who gets the nod this Sunday. As for the offense, let’s go with Evan Engram. This may not seem like an “under-the-radar” player, but the tight end hasn’t done much this season. Going against his former team, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Payton utilize the tight end position in a way he has yet to do this season on Sunday.

Question 5: Do you expect the Broncos to cover as 3-point favorites, and do you like any props bets for the game?

Once again, Denver is one of the hardest places to play in the NFL. The Broncos haven’t lost a home game since last season. They’re also coming off a huge win, yet this team still knows it hasn’t accomplished anything yet. Payton will have this team prepared and ready, and I do expect them to cover that spread. As for props, I like the Nix 3+ alt passing TDs at +280 at FanDuel.

Thanks to Ian for taking the time to answer our questions!
