• The Tennessee Titans’ offense, overall, has been really bad. Lost in that is the fact that Tony Pollard has been really good:

• Ran Carthon missed on a lot of things, but signing Pollard wasn’t one of them. He has been forced into the workhorse role with Tyjae Spears on IR. He’s doing a really good job with 152 yards in the first two games. That number, without context, isn’t good, but think about the fact that teams don’t fear the Titans’ passing game, and the fact that they have faced two really good defenses.

• T’Vondre Sweat told reporters that he feels great and is ready to be back out there:

“I feel great, I feel amazing,” Sweat said. “I feel like I am conditioning well, and I’m just ready to get back out there.”

• The Titans desperately need Sweat back out there to slow down Indianapolis Colts’ running back Jonathan Taylor who torched the Denver Broncos for 165 yards last week.

Titans vs. Colts final injury report: JC Latham out again

[UPDATE – 2:53 PM] T’Vondre Sweat has been ruled OUT for Sunday, and Kevin Winston is DOUBTFUL.

Tennessee Titans head coach Brian Callahan said after today’s practice that JC Latham is the only player who will be listed as out for the game on Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts. This is no surprise as Latham hasn’t practiced all week. It would be great if he could be back for next week’s game against the Las Vegas Raiders.

As for who will play right tackle this week, Callahan said both Oli Udoh and John Ojukwu got reps this week. Neither is a great option, but at least the Colts’ pass rush isn’t the caliber of the two teams they have played the last two weeks.

There was a lot of talk about CB Jalyn Armour-Davis, with both L’Jarius Sneed and Jarvis Brownlee on the injury report this week. Again, not the ideal scenario. There is still a chance that both Sneed and Brownlee can go on Sunday. The official injury report isn’t out yet, but they will probably both be listed as questionable.

Nate Washington says Calvin Ridley needs a reality check

There was a lot of buzz around Tennessee Titans wide receiver Calvin Ridley in the preseason. He and Cam Ward had an immediate connection dating back to OTAs. It hasn’t translated through the first two weeks of the regular season. A big reason for that is that Ridley has dropped multiple passes.

Ridley is getting paid to be a star, #1 receiver. They haven’t gotten that from him through the first two weeks of the season. Former Titans Nate Washington says Ridley needs a reality check:

If this offense is going to be good, Ridley has to step up and be the guy he is getting paid to be. That needs to start tomorrow against the Indianapolis Colts. There aren’t many must-win games in the NFL in September, but this is pretty much a must-win game for the Titans. The Colts have been really good in the first two games, but they aren’t as good as they have played. The Titans have three straight on the road after this one.

There is a lot of outside noise around this team right now. They can quiet a lot of that with a win. If they are going to do that, they need Ridley to step up and lead the offense.

Titans place T’Vondre Sweat on IR

Well, this is not a good development. The Tennessee Titans placed defensive tackle T’Vondre Sweat on injured reserve today. That means he will miss the next four games. Early in the week, it seemed like Sweat might have a chance to play this week. Now he is out until at least week seven when Mike Vrabel and the New England Patriots come to town.

Stopping Jonathan Taylor and the Indianapolis Colts’ rushing attack was going to be a tall task even if Sweat was able to play. This just makes it that much tougher. It is going to take everyone on defense playing at their best for this group to have much of a chance to slow Taylor.

It’s been a rough start to the season for Sweat. He missed a lot of training camp after having a tonsillectomy. That caused him to lose weight and be behind in his football conditioning. Now he will miss the next four games because of an ankle injury.

The Titans elevated Carlos Watkins from the practice squad to take Sweat’s place tomorrow.

It’s time for the Titans to move on from Brian Callahan

Earlier this week, I wrote a post that was kind of defending Brian Callahan. I stand by the statement that a lot of things that have gone wrong with the Tennessee Titans are out of his control, but this year he is making terrible in-game decisions. Take for instance today when, by his own admission, he couldn’t make a decision about whether or not to go for a 4th and 1 even after the Indianapolis Colts took a timeout and he took a timeout. The Titans got a delay of game following the two timeouts because the field goal unit was late getting on the field. That’s unacceptable.

You could also point to the play he challenged in the fourth quarter when the Colts were given a first down on a first down pass. Now, he ended up winning the challenge, but the risk there far outweighs the reward. The Titans were down 41-20 with about 8:30 left in the game. The timeout that is at risk there is much more valuable than the half-yard that he gained by winning the challenge, especially when you consider that Jonthan Taylor gained five yards on the next play.

The process to hire Callahan wasn’t a bad one. He was a very hot candidate when he got the job. He interviewed for multiple jobs and was on the short list for at least one other team. The problem is that the actual job has proven to be too much for him. He probably won’t get fired this week, but we are now at the point where Chad Brinker and Mike Borgonzi should be making plans for who they will hire before the 2026 season.

Michael Pittman said the Titans didn’t look like they wanted to play today in warmups

The quickest way for an NFL coach to get fired is to lose his team. I’m not saying Brian Callahan has lost the team, but when players from the opposing team can tell during warmups that a team doesn’t want to play, it’s not a good look. That was the case today, at least according to Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Michael Pittman:

It has been a brutal start for the Tennessee Titans. Everyone knew the first two weeks were going to be tough, having to travel to Denver to take on the Broncos and hosting a Super Bowl contender in the Los Angeles Rams in week two. Things were supposed to lighten up a little bit in week three with the Colts at home. That was very much not the case.

It’s going to be a long week for everyone in the Titans’ building. A win next week on the road against the Houston Texans would quiet a lot of this, but this team has shown no signs that they will be able to pull that off.

Could Titans head coach Brian Callahan give up playcalling?

Tennessee Titans head coach Brian Callahan was asked today if he would consider giving up playcalling. It is not the first time he has been asked that question since he took over as the head coach, but his answer was different today. Every other time he has been asked, he has shut it down pretty quickly. Today, he said that pretty much everything is on the table after the 0-3 start.

Part of the reason Callahan was hired was that he was supposed to be an asset as a playcaller. That hasn’t come to fruition through the first 20 games here. There is still time for that to change, but time is running out.

If he does decide to give up playcalling, I would assume that responsibility would go to offensive coordinator Nick Holz, who was hand picked by Callahan to be the OC. I’m not sure that would really change anything.

The biggest thing to consider is whether or not giving up playcalling would help Callahan be better at the in-game decisions that have been so bad this year. If Callahan thinks that he has too much on his plate during the games while calling the plays, he should go ahead and give it up.

Ridley’s terrible game, brutal net yardage, and other Titans bullets

I don’t have to tell you this, but the wheels fell off this franchise the night that Jon Robinson traded A.J. Brown to the Philadelphia Eagles. The Tennessee Titans moved into the building that is now called Nissan Stadium in 1999. In that time, they have really only had two receivers that could even arguably be called number one receivers, Derrick Mason and A.J. They thought they were getting another one when they signed Calvin Ridley. That has proven to be untrue.

• That is really unacceptable for how much the Titans are paying Calvin Ridley. Brian Callahan said in his press conference on Monday that no one works harder than Ridley. That’s all well and good, but right now, he is actually hurting the team on the field.

• In case you can’t see that whole tweet, the Titans are dead last in net yardage at -454. That is a commentary on how bad both the offense and defense have been. Special teams is the only unit on this team that has been remotely good.
• It’s hard to say if the new regime didn’t want Derrick Henry or if Henry didn’t want to be here for a rebuild. It sure would be nice to have found a way to work that out.

Titans trade Jarvis Brownlee to Jets

Jordan Schultz is reporting that the Tennessee Titans have traded Jarvis Brownlee to the New York Jets for a 2026 “late round swap.”

There are quite a few veteran players whom it would make sense for the Titans to trade before the NFL trade deadline. Brownlee is not a guy who was on that list. He is only in his second year and has played well at times for the Titans. He does have some issues with committing penalties because he uses his hands too much at the top of routes, but he seems like a guy who would be worth keeping around while he is on his rookie contract.

Brownlee was one of the Titans’ starting corners to start the season. He missed last week’s game after he suffered an ankle injury in practice leading up to the Indianapolis Colts game.

He was a fifth round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. John Glennon says the Titans are sending Brownlee and a 2026 seventh to the Jets for a 2026 sixth. This move really makes no sense.

This leads me to believe that Brownlee was a problem in the locker room, and they just wanted to get rid of him. I haven’t heard that, but how else does this move make any sense?

Titans Reacts Survey Week 4

Each week, we post a “confidence poll” about the direction of the organization. It’s really a silly exercise because there is no possible way that anyone could be confident in the direction the Tennessee Titans are headed. What will be interesting to see is the results of this poll if/when Brian Callahan is fired.

There are really two things over the next few weeks that could make that happen in season:

The first is getting run out of the building this week in Houston against the Texans. There is nothing Amy Adams-Strunk hates more than being embarrassed in Houston.

The second is getting run out of the building when Mike Vrabel and the New England Patriots come to town on October 19th. Amy also hates it when former employers embarrass her.

Cam Ward listed as limited in Titans Wednesday practice

Well, as if this week hasn’t been crazy enough, Tennessee Titans quarterback Cam Ward was listed on the Wednesday injury report as limited with an ankle/calf injury. Now, it is important to keep in mind that it is only Wednesday. There is no reason to panic yet. Ward finished Sunday’s game against the Indianapolis Colts, so we can assume that whatever is going on wasn’t bad enough to keep him from playing.

As for the rest of the report, JC Latham was listed as DNP once again. Brian Callahan didn’t give an update on Latham when he talked to the media earlier today. I’d be surprised if he played this week.

Kalel Mullings and Bryce Oliver were also listed as DNP.

Kevin Winston Jr. and Kevin Zeitler were both listed as limited. Winston Jr. has yet to play this season. If he isn’t able to go this week, it’s fair to ask why they didn’t put him on injured reserve to start the season. Zeitler missed last week’s game with that bicep injury. The fact that he was limited on Wednesday gives me hope he will play on Sunday.

The Tennessee Titans were back on the practice field yesterday. Here’s to hoping that the only thing we have to talk about coming out of this game is the play on the football field. It probably won’t be good, but I’m over talking about coaching blunders, why they traded a promising young player, and things like that.

• It’s doubtful that any of those guys get into the Hall of Fame, but it is cool to see them on the list. This is the first year for Jurrell Casey. He was a really good player here for a long time.

Titans need to use Jarvis Brownlee trade as motivation to play young CBs

The Tennessee Titans shockingly traded cornerback Jarvis Brownlee Jr. to the New York Jets in a late-round pick swap. The fanbase understandably reacted with confusion and frustration, but what’s done is done. The Titans need to use this opportunity to give snaps to the young cornerbacks they claimed off waivers.

The Titans held the No. 1 waiver wire priority after cut-down day. Mike Borgonzi used that advantage to claim two cornerbacks, Jalyn Armour-Davis and Samuel Womack. They should be the cornerbacks getting snaps in Brownlee’s absence opposite L’Jarius Sneed and Roger McCreary.

Armour-Davis was the most popular waiver wire candidate in the league, but the Titans had first dibs. He made his Titans debut against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 3. He split snaps with Darrell Baker Jr., and Brian Callahan made it sound like that rotation will continue in Week 4 versus the Houston Texans.

Armour-Davis earned 19 snaps against the Colts. The former Alabama standout was credited with allowing one reception on his lone target in coverage for 15 yards. Baker Jr. played double the amount of snaps, 38, allowing just one catch for six yards. Hopefully Armour-Davis evens the snap-count.

Womack has not featured for the Titans this year. He played extensively for the Colts, earning 673 snaps throughout 2024. Womack allowed 27 receptions on 44 targets, per PFF, 388 yards and four touchdowns. He logged seven pass breakups and two interceptions.

The Brownlee trade is difficult to comprehend. The Titans need more impact starters on cost-controlled contracts throughout this lengthy rebuild, not fewer. Obviously Mike Borgonzi and Chad Brinker, who inherited Brownlee from the previous regime, didn’t see him as a long-term fit.

Borgonzi and Brinker are rebuilding the Titans in their vision. They obviously believe they’ll receive ample opportunity to revamp the roster. They brought in Armour-Davis and Womack, so Callahan needs to play those corners.

Titans vs. Texans final injury report: JC Latham out again

Tennessee Titans head coach Brian Callahan said after practice today that both JC Latham and Bryce Oliver will be OUT Sunday against the Houston Texans. This is three straight that Latham has missed. Callahan also announced that Uli Udoh will get the start at right tackle. Whoo Boy!

Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson, who was signed to the active roster today, will be the backup tackle for this one with John Ojukwo likely being inactive. I’ll set the over/under for when they send BCD out there for Udoh out there at 8:00 left in the second quarter. Place your bets in the comments.

Cam Ward was a full participant in yesterday’s practice. I’d assume he won’t have an injury designation heading into the game. That’s at least one injury issue that was avoided for the Titans this season.

Titans add undrafted free agent rookie to 53-man roster

As the Tennessee Titans prepare for their third straight game without starting right tackle JC Latham, they have signed offensive tackle Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson to the 53-man roster. BCD was signed as an undrafted free agent following the 2025 NFL Draft. He made the initial 53-man roster out of camp and was inactive for the first game. The Titans cut him before week two, but added him back to the practice squad.

The Titans have been without Latham since the second half of the week one loss to the Denver Broncos. He hasn’t practiced this week, so it appears he will miss his third straight game. If he misses next week against the Arizona Cardinals, you will have to wonder why they didn’t put him on IR after week one.

Of course, Kevin Winston, Jr. is on track to miss his fourth straight game. Has anyone checked in with the front office to see if they know how short-term IR works? It might be a question worth asking.

Will BCD get the start at right tackle on Sunday? It might be worth a shot, considering how poorly John Ojukwu and Oli Udoh have played the last few weeks.

Titans-Texans: 5 potential X-Factors

The Tennessee Titans will play the Houston Texans on Sunday in Week 4. Both struggling teams are desperate for a victory after winless 0-3 starts. The rebuilding Titans were expected to struggle, but the Texans entered 2025 as AFC South division favorites.

Titans head coach Brian Callahan badly needs a win. Rumors of a potential coaching change have begun swirling after Callahan gave up play-calling duties to QB coach Bo Hardegree earlier this week. We’ve identified five potential Titans who could serve as x-factor performers against the Texans.

Dan Moore​

The Texans have a ferocious pass-rushing duo in Danielle Hunter and Will Anderson Jr. Indications are JC Latham could be sidelined another week with his hip injury. If the Titans need to slide help John Ojukwu and/or Oli Udoh’s way, then Dan Moore needs to survive on an island against Hunter and Anderson Jr.

Jeffery Simmons​

Jeffery Simmons has easily been the Titans’ best player. If the Texans have a glaring weakness, it’s the interior of their offensive line. Simmons especially has advantages over guards Laken Tomlinson and Ed Ingram. The Titans need their superstar defensive tackle to be a game wrecker.

L’Jarius Sneed​

L’Jarius Sneed repeatedly asked, “who?” when asked about Texans star receiver Nico Collins. That was a bold statement for a cornerback who’s been fully healthy for two games. Sneed is finding his confidence, but any one-on-one matchup with Collins is a difficult assignment.

Jalyn Armour-Davis​

The Jarvis Brownlee trade creates an opportunity for waiver wire cornerback Jalyn Armour-Davis. The former Alabama standout made his debut in Week 3, earning 19 defensive snaps. Armour-Davis will probably be tasked with shouldering a much larger workload on Sunday.

Calvin Ridley​

Calvin Ridley has the third-lowest catch rate in the NFL, according to Next Gen Stats (38.1%). Focus drops have been a persistent issue. The Titans’ offense needs Calvin Ridley to snap out of his funk, and the Texans will be without No. 1 cornerback Derek Stingley Jr.

Brian Callahan addresses the Jarvis Brownlee trade (kind of)

Well, today’s Brian Callahan press conference went about as well as I expected. He addressed the Jarvis Brownlee trade at the beginning and said he was going to leave it at that. He then, of course, was asked questions about the trade and proceeded to talk in circles. The local media in attendance is going in on him pretty hard about it:

Kuharsky is not wrong here. It’s obvious the Tennessee Titans traded Brownlee because of something they didn’t like that he was doing outside of his play on Sundays. Callahan understandably doesn’t want to throw the player under the bus, but he has to be better at handling these questions.

People jumped all over Mike Vrabel because of his refusal to answer questions after he had made a statement on the issue. That can be incredibly frustrating at times, but it serves the coach better than just talking in circles like Callahan did today. We all appreciate Callahan’s candor, but sometimes he would be better served by making a statement and then just flat out refusing to answer any further questions on the subject.

Titans lose 26-0 to the Texans

I am running out of things to write. I have been a fan of this team since they moved here in the late 90s, and this is the worst team they have ever had. There is nothing positive about this team. Before today, the special teams had been really good. Today, Joey Slye missed two field goals.

The Tennessee Titans’ offense didn’t even make it to the red zone today. So much for getting a bump by changing play-callers. The entire operation is bad on offense. Cam Ward was bad today. The offensive line was terrible again, and Bill Callahan has done absolutely nothing to make them any better.

The defense played pretty well in the beginning of the game; they got a couple of sacks, but they wore down as the game went on. There were also multiple busted coverages, including L’Jarius Sneed letting Nico Collins run right past him on a 2nd and 33 to pick up 37 yards. He probably shouldn’t run his mouth ever again because he is the worst acquisition in the history of the franchise.

Brian Callahan should be fired this week. That doesn’t solve anything, but something has to give here. He’s clearly not going to turn this thing around.

Titans vs. Texans open game thread

Today starts the Bo Hardegree era of play-calling. It will be interesting to see if there is any significant difference in the offense today versus the first three weeks. Hardegree has reportedly elected to call plays from the sideline instead of in the booth. That probably makes the most sense considering he has been on the sideline with Cam Ward thus far this season.

Brian Callahan is now officially coaching for his job. They don’t want to fire him in-season, but they might not be able to stop Tennessee Titans owner Amy Adams-Strunk from flying off the handle if he does something stupid or the Titans get blown out by the Houston Texans.

Lost if all of the mess with the Titans this week has been the fact that the Texans are also 0-3, and apparently have some drama going on in their locker room with C.J. Stroud. It sure would be nice to go down there and send them into a full-on tailspin after they were the heavy favorites to win the AFC South this year.
