All the details on the Arizona Cardinals preseason games and how to watch them

The Arizona Cardinals announced their plans for the preseason and how you can watch the games.

From the team:

The Emmy-award winning Arizona Cardinals Broadcast Network will produce all three of the Cardinals 2025 preseason games. They can be seen locally in Phoenix on Arizona’s Family (CBS 5, KPHO-TV) beginning Saturday, August 9 vs. Kansas City.

Former Cardinals linebacker and current ESPN analyst Sam Acho will join Cardinals play-by-play announcer Dave Pasch and team reporter Dani Sureck (sideline) to call the action on TV. Paul Calvisi will join Acho and Sureck for the Las Vegas Raiders broadcast on August 23.

Acho played nine years (2011-19) in the NFL, including his first four seasons with the Cardinals after the team drafted him in the fourth round in the 2011 NFL Draft out of Texas. He played 51 games (32 starts) with the Cardinals and had 13.0 sacks and 126 tackles.

Each game broadcast will be preceded by a 30-minute pregame show that will be hosted by Arizona’s Family sports anchor Mark McClune.

Arizona Cardinals young secondary could be the building blocks of a new, great defense

Arizona Cardinals Mandatory Minicamp

The Arizona Cardinals have invested in their secondary heavily.

Happy Monday one and all.

Remember, that the we will be unable to post from 2:00 p.m. until tomorrow morning, hoping to be able to get started on the new platform around 7:00 a.m.

Before that, let’s talk about the young cornerback room and how good they have looked at camp.

For Arizona Cardinals fans, it has been quite a wait to see them playing a group of young players together in a secondary that had promise, and could grow, as Kyle Odegard spoke about.

This secondary has a chance to grow into something special:

CB Will Johnson
S Budda Baker
S Jalen Thompson
CB Garrett Williams
CB Max Melton

— Kyle Odegard (@Kyle_Odegard) August 4, 2025

So much of that is that the previous regimes just did not believe in investing in the cornerback position.

It was not a priority, and think about this, post Patrick Peterson (2011), the Arizona Cardinals drafted three cornerbacks in the top 100 of NFL Draft’s over 11 years.

In 2012 they took Jamell Fleming at 80.

In 2016 they took Brandon Williams at 92.

Those two combined for zero career starts and just about 1000 career snaps.

Let’s hope that is improved with the new regime and the new picks, but overall, the lack of investment in the cornerback position by the previous regimes was shocking.

Now, we could see the team build a great secondary strictly from draft picks. What a world.

Isaiah Adams continuing to impress at Arizona Cardinals 2025 training camp

2218528235.jpg

Happy Friday one and all.

The Arizona Cardinals are continuing to beef up training camp, with another padded practice today, and then following up with the Red and White Practice tomorrow, which is padded as well.

It seems like a new day.

One thing that I have spoken about on the podcast and talked about here is the emergence of second year guard Isaiah Adams.

While nothing in training camp matters in terms of how they actually do in live NFL games, to see Adams stepping up and having a strong training camp is a big development.

"Isaiah had a hell of a day, had a hell of a week last week, honestly."

Arizona Cardinals coach Jonathan Gannon has been impressed by second year guard Isaiah Adams. pic.twitter.com/VQRmQCSQR9

— PHNX Cardinals (@PHNX_Cardinals) July 31, 2025

That would mean that two Arizona Cardinals draft picks have developed into starting quality offensive linemen in the NFL, in three years under Monti Ossenfort, which was not something we saw in the previous regime.

Fans have lamented the lack of drafting and developing along the lines, and while we know of only Paris Johnson Jr. being a quality NFL starter, Ossenfort is at least throwing premium picks at the situation.

Now it is up to the coaches to continue to develop those players.

Arizona Cardinals closing in on bringing back Will Hernandez per reports

imagn-24388881.jpg

Fans have been wondering aloud about Will Hernandez, and it seems to be that there is going to be movement, and maybe even a reunion with the Arizona Cardinals soon.

From John Gambadoro:

The Cardinals and OL Will Hernandez, who visited with the team on Monday, both seem to want to work something out that would have the veteran Guard signing back with Arizona. I would expect a deal to get done here shortly.

— John Gambadoro (@Gambo987) August 6, 2025

Fans have been wanting to see Hernandez back and it may be on the way this afternoon, in which case we will have that too.

It will be interesting in what role Hernandez would be brought back, based on people I spoke to, this is more of a long view play, where they don’t expect much out of Hernandez early, but will have a veteran in the mix if and when he is needed later in the year.

If the Cardinals bring back Hernandez what do you want to see happen with the starting offensive line? Are you expecting Hernandez to start, or would you want to see them stick with the first team as of now: PJJ, Evan Brown, Hjalte Froholdt, Isaiah Adams, Jonah Williams?

Interested to see your comments on what you think they should do.

Arizona Cardinals to play starters in first preseason game

imagn-26722228.jpg

It has been a question with Jonathan Gannon teams since he arrived and for the first time we will see the Arizona Cardinals roll out the starters in the preseason.

So, what can we expect?

Well that is yet to be seen, but for the Cardinals it will mean we see Kyler Murray and much of the first team offense against the Kansas City Chiefs on Saturday.

We will get a look at some of the new defensive additions, but in a very bland and vanilla way, which I believe everyone is really okay with because we at least get to see the starters.

It is a change in philosophy, but one that makes sense.

In year one, Kyler was coming off the ACL injury, so you knew things would be lean as they got the right players in and waited for the quarterback to come back.

They also had the Colt McCoy situation playing itself out.

Year two, that was something that a lot of people wondered about, but I will maintain what I said on the podcast, sometimes you are willing to see who is willing to buy-in as you are building something. Culture is important, and while it cannot outplay talent, talent within the culture can make a team dangerous. That is where we are.

It is year three, the expectations are now changed, and the standard is different. It seems like the players are there and buying into what Jonathan Gannon is building, now can they get the payoff?

Arizona Cardinals re-sign Will Hernandez

imagn-24388876.jpg

The Arizona Cardinals have been working on getting Will Hernandez back into the fold, and now it is happening.

From the team:

“The Arizona Cardinals Football Club today announced that the team has re-signed offensive lineman Will Hernandez and has released cornerback Keni-H Lovely. Hernandez is being placed on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list (PUP).“

“The signing took place today at State Farm Stadium, site of 2025 Arizona Cardinals Training Camp.”

Hernandez (6-3, 332) returns to the Cardinals after starting the first five games at right guard last season before spending the remainder of the season on injured reserve. He started 35 games the past three seasons with the Cardinals after originally joining the team in 2022.“

“The 29-year old Hernandez came to Arizona after playing his first four seasons with the New York Giants (2018-21) where he entered the league as a second-round pick (34th overall) in the 2018 NFL Draft out of UTEP. Hernandez has appeared in 97 games (91 starts) in his career, appearing at both left guard and right guard.“

“Hernandez will wear jersey #76.”

We discussed the return of Hernandez, and starting on the PUP makes sense, he will get back into game shape, the Cardinals will have plenty of time to evaluate and make a decision on who their best guards are for 2025.

Welcome back, Will!

Arizona Cardinals passing game looks to grow in Marvin Harrison Jr’s second season

imagn-26735687.jpg

Happy Friday one and all.

The Arizona Cardinals take on the Kansas City Chiefs tomorrow to open up the 2025 NFL preseason, and we will get the starters for the Cardinals and the Chiefs.

While that may give us something more to watch than normal, it is still the preseason.

As for the regular season, there is one thing Cardinals fans have been waiting on and that is year two of Marvin Harrison Jr.

During the offseason, Harrison Jr. noticeable bulked up, and that was the first thing we all talked about:

.@MarvHarrisonJr has put on muscle this offseason 😳💪

(via @AZCardinals) pic.twitter.com/QZpdSNgHsD

— NFL (@NFL) June 10, 2025

However, the thing that matters is the way he is working in training camp. There is a lot of stuff that we get highlights of, but the things we don’t see is what has been so impressive. His work in team, redzone, and during the stuff that cannot be reported on has been eye-popping.

So, to see how he is working, and the fact that the Cardinals are focusing their passing game through him and Pro Bowler Trey McBride makes sense.

With Cardinals camp complete, here's the distribution of their first-team targets in full-speed 11-on-11 work. Excluding the two days MHJ missed.

Marvin Harrison Jr., 14
Trey McBride, 13
Zay Jones, 5
Trey Benson, 4
Greg Dortch, 3
Mike Wilson, 2
Elijah Higgins, 1
James Conner, 1

— Theo Mackie (@theo_mackie) August 7, 2025

Now, do we see any of that tomorrow? Do you care if we don’t see much of MHJ and Trey tomorrow, or is that something that you want to see immediately?

Arizona Cardinals get win over Kansas City Chiefs in Preseason opener

imagn-26816953.jpg

Happy preseason one and all.

The Arizona Cardinals are 1-0 and clearly heading to the Super Bowl.

Or, they did enough with the starters, showed some things, had some boneheaded plays, and in the end did enough to get a win in their preseason opener 20-17.

We saw an efficient offensive drive end by an inexplicable interception by Kyler Murray, but it’s the preseason, so it is what it is at this point.

The bigger concern of the night was the fact that the kick returners apparently cannot hold onto the football.

The starting defense gave up a touchdown but can we blame them?

Ideally they would have held them to a field goal after the Greg Dortch fumble, but again, it is the preseason and we didn’t see all the big guns out.

Jacoby Brissett and the second offense put up two touchdowns, and they did enough to get the win.

We will look at this more in depth this week.

5 winners and 3 losers in the Arizona Caridnals’ preseason win over the Chiefs

imagn-26818438.jpg

The Arizona Cardinals are 1-0 on the young season.

Well, they are 1-0 in the preseason, and they had some things that looked good on Saturday night, while other things did not.

The first thing I want to say is that I am not a huge “the preseason means something” guy, however there are things that we can evaluate and glean from the matchups, especially with a number of starters in action.

So, the good and the bad usually come from individual efforts, there were a couple of team things I saw that I liked as well.

Let’s take a look at the 5 winners and 3 losers from the Arizona Cardinals 20-17 win over the Kansas City Chiefs.

Winners

Emari Demercado – I don’t think anyone was concerned about Demercado’s standing on the roster, however his work with Jacoby Brissett and the second team offense solidified the fact that this dude is the third back on this roster, and a perfect complimentary piece to the James Conner/Trey Benson duo.

Tip Reiman – The penalty was not a penalty, but I guess in today’s NFL, we are protecting players, especially in the preseason. But as the kids say, Reiman got that man out of the club.

Darren Hall – The veteran cornerback had a great first game in the preseason, really pushing to get a chance to find a way onto the 53-man roster, or get himself a job somewhere else in the NFL.

Kitan Crawford – You see the excitement and upside in his game, and he played about as well as anyone could have asked in coverage. He has an uphill battle to get reps, but his athleticism and special teams work gives him a great chance at the 53-man roster.

Arizona Cardinals first team offense – I know, I know. The ending to drive one was gross, and they played it conservative on drive two after getting into a great position out of a 2nd and 21. However, what we can look at that was positive was they had 18 plays for 114 yards, that is 6.3 yards per play on offense and held the ball for over 10 minutes on those drives. That is the game plan and what you want to see from this unit.

Losers

Kyler Murray – There was one bad throw, and other than that it was as smooth as butter, but perception is reality for this fanbase. They won’t care about the process, they only care about the end result.

DeeJay Dallas and Greg Dortch – Guys… Can we not? Like, three fumbles? Really?

Arizona Cardinals first team defense – They did nothing wrong, I just hate that their first work together was in the negative field position and they were put in that position and couldn’t do anything to keep a great QB out of the endzone. It shows they need Calais, they need Josh Sweat, and they need time together.

Cardinals-Chiefs 2025 preseason open thread

gettyimages-2193106179.jpg

Guys… We made it!

For the first time this season, the Arizona Cardinals take the food, and we can enjoy the game if you are local on TV, if not, check the NFL+ app for preseason streaming options.

However, this is a fun way to start things, against the Kansas City Chiefs, with both teams getting the starters some work.

As our buddy Donnie Druin talked about on X today.

Remember, if the Cardinals starters don’t look good tonight, it’s only preseason. Don’t overreact.

If they do look good, they’re winning the Super Bowl.

— Donnie Druin (@DonnieDruin) August 9, 2025

This is obviously a little bit of fun being had at the fans who will definitely overreact and we will have our reactions tonight or in the morning, but this is going to be a fun season, so sit back, relax and enjoy.

Also, we will keep the open threads, but feel free to join in on “The Feed” during the game if there are big moments you want to post about on the front page.

Backup quarterback battle: Round one goes to Jacoby Brissett by a lot

imagn-26816822.jpg

After one preseason game, and training camp, the Arizona Cardinals backup quarterback battle is really not much of a battle, but more of a formality with the only question is if the Cardinals can get into the regular season healthy.

Jacoby Brissett got three series, his first series was a bit uneventful, going 0-2 and getting a three and out for the offense.

Then the Arizona Cardinals defense made a big play, getting an interception, and Brissett and the offense came back on the field. Trey Benson carried the ball three times, gaining seven yards, and on 3-8, Drew Petzing dialed up a screen that Emari Demercado took to the house for Brissett’s first touchdown of the game.

So, 1-3 for 43 yards and a touchdown, not too shabby.

Brissett’s next drive was a little better, as he had completions of 11 yards, 13 yards, 13 yards, and a one yard pass for a touchdown to Xavier Weaver.

Brissett through the ball over 10 yards once, and was 5-7 on passes under 10 yards, and had an average depth of target of six yards.

It was a smart and efficient day for Brissett.

Clayton Tune on the other hand took some chances, but he was 0-4 on passes over 10 yards, and threw an interception.

He was a cool 5-5 for 47 yards on passes of less than 10 yards, but his average depth of target for the game was 10.3 yards.

It is an interesting juxtaposition on the two in their battle. Jacoby basically knows how to take advantage of what the defense is going to give him, allowing the playmakers on offense to do their thing.

Meanwhile, Tune is making throws that maybe you make to try and show off a little?

Either way, while we know it is highly, highly unlikely that Brissett doesn’t make the roster, in round one of the backup battle, there was a clear winner.

Arizona Cardinals banged up after first preseason game

imagn-26418312.jpg

The preseason does a bunch of things, but one thing it inevitably does is test your depth. For the Arizona Cardinals, after just one preseason game, they are being tested heading into their second preseason game.

Jonathan Gannon talked about the Cardinals injury situation coming out of their preseason win over the Kansas City Chiefs.

Arizona Cardinals injury updates:
OT Christian Jones to miss time with a knee issue
DL Justin Jones still sidelined with his knee issue
OL Jon Gaines II returning from a thumb injury
DL Dalvin Tomlinson banged up
WR Simi Fehoko returning from quad issue @PHNX_Cardinals

— Bo Brack (@BoBrack) August 12, 2025

The biggest ones we are seeing are along the reloaded defensive front, and the big one is obviously Dalvin Tomlinson, who was one of the crown jewels of the offseason.

We don’t know the extent, and we likely won’t, but we do know he will miss some practice time.

Christian Jones is going to miss some time with the knee injury, per Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon.

Justin Jones still battling his knee issue. Dalvin Tomlinson is nicked up. They won’t practice today.

Jon Gaines II will be back practicing.

— Tyler Drake (@Tdrake4sports) August 12, 2025

The issue is not necessarily Tomlinson himself, but the fact that with Tomlinson now banged up, Justin Jones missing time, Bilal Nichols still not practicing and Walter Nolen still dealing with a calf injury, the reshaped defensive front is now the same as last year, with Calais Campbell.

Now, as long as Tomlinson is ready game one, that is no issues, but it is something to keep an eye on over the next couple of weeks.

Arizona Cardinals sign wide receiver Kelly Akharaiyi, place Trishton Jackson on IR

imagn-26424678.jpg

The Arizona Cardinals made a move at wide receiver today, placing Trishton Jackson on injured reserve and in turn signing undrafted rookie free agent Kelly Akharaiyi to the team.

From the team:

Akharaiyi (6-0, 201) entered the league with Buffalo in May as an undrafted rookie free agent from Mississippi State. He played in 2024 at Mississippi State after previously playing at UTEP (2022-23) and Tyler Junior College (2020-21). In his college career, Akharaiyi appeared in 35 games (25 starts) and totaled 94 receptions for 1,699 yards and 10 touchdowns. Last year at Mississippi State, he had 391 yards and two touchdowns on 25 receptions.“

“Akharaiyi will wear jersey #36”

The Cardinals have a deep receiving corps, but losing a training camp and preseason player like Jackson means you need another young buck looking to make a name for himself.

Akharaiyi will have that opportunity now as he tries to make an impact for the Arizona Cardinals.

Good luck to Kelly, and quick healing to Trishton.

ESPN predicts the ceiling and floor for the Arizona Cardinals 2025 season

imagn-26829883.jpg

There is a lot of optimism for the Arizona Cardinals 2025 season, but ESPN wanted to give their thoughts.

The Cardinals beat guy, Josh Weinfuss discussed his thoughts on the Arizona Cardinals ceiling and their floor for the 2025 season, and his overall thoughts make some sense.

Arizona Cardinals

Ceiling: 11-6 | Floor: 6-11

Biggest X factor: Wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr.

After his good-but-not-great rookie season, the expectation around the Cardinals is that Harrison will make the coveted jump in Year 2. Through training camp, he looks like he’s on pace to do just that. He added 11 pounds of muscle and is moving as quickly as he did when he was lighter. Harrison’s performance this season — whether he can consistently show up throughout a full game, make tough catches and put up big numbers — could dictate whether the Cardinals make the playoffs. — Josh Weinfuss

I get the thought here. An 11-6 season is another improvement from last year and gets the Cardinals into the playoffs (likely), but unless injuries lay waste to the team, I don’t see a six win season. Unless they look at that as the floor for that reason, I would slightly disagree with things.

Notes from the Arizona Cardinals joint practice with the Denver Broncos

imagn-26764544.jpg

Happy Thursday and joint practice day one and all.

The Arizona Cardinals met up with the Denver Broncos today and had their joint practice which will in turn take the starters out of the preseason game on Saturday against the Broncos.

In that we had a lot of information coming out today, so let’s take a look at all the news and notes:

Trey McBride has been wide open vs the Broncos defense during team periods. One time so open he threw his hands up in celebration long before the ball even got to him.

— James Palmer (@JamesPalmerTV) August 14, 2025
Trey McBride is eating us alive on defense.

— Jake Goetz (@broncosnews303) August 14, 2025
Broncos HC Sean Payton on trying to defend Trey McBride:

“Those players become more difficult than the blue chip receiver out here that we can lean to, double. … They’re so quarterback friendly cause they’re just closer to the position.“

— Theo Mackie (@theo_mackie) August 14, 2025

Trey McBride was completely dominant against a Vance Joseph defense? I am shocked!

The thing with the Broncos defense is, they are elite along the defensive front and have the best defensive player in the game, who also happens to play cornerback.

Yet there were some wins even over the great Pat Surtain II:

Marvin Harrison Jr. beats Patrick Surtain on a crosser for a nice gain.

— Johnny Venerable (@JohnnyVenerable) August 14, 2025

The fun thing about joint practices against elite competition, it is fun to see the second year wide receiver have some success.

Marvin Harrison Jr. with an explosive 30 yard catch against Riley Moss.

Kyler went back to MHJ for a completion against Surtain II

— Bo Brack (@BoBrack) August 14, 2025

The Cardinals defense was a little suspect today though.

Takeaways from Broncos offense vs Cardinals defense:

Bo Nix had his best training camp practice of the year.

He was incredibly sharp. Made the right decisions. Took the check downs when needed. Hit deep passes, including 70-yard touchdown pass to Devaugh Vele.

Ended practice… pic.twitter.com/M4kluAWFXA

— Zac Stevens (@ZacStevensDNVR) August 14, 2025

However, last years struggles seem to be rectifying themselves:

In first team period, Cardinals’ front seven finds success against Broncos’ offensive line.

Four designed runs by the Broncos, two immediate TFLs.

Two other runs gained ~5 yards.

Bo Nix took off and ran on his only dropback.

— Zac Stevens (@ZacStevensDNVR) August 14, 2025

Overall, it seemed like a productive day and both coaches seemed happy with what they saw. Enough so that the starters are done for the week:

Payton said Cardinals coach Jonathan Gannon is also planning to rest his starters Saturday. https://t.co/AcNsAb5MkF

Arizona Cardinals likely not to play starters against Denver Broncos

gettyimages-2229315347.jpg

We are into the 2025 preseason, and that means we see the starters… right?

Well, after the Arizona Cardinals starters got work in preseason game one, they now may not see work in preseason game two.

However, it is not just because they don’t need to play, no instead it is because they had their joint practice with the Denver Broncos on Thursday, and the Broncos are not playing their starters and their head coach Sean Payton believes the Arizona Cardinals are not either.

The Broncos and Cardinals starters will not play in the second preseason game, per Sean Payton

My buddies Johnny and Bo over at PHNX Cardinals had a nice conversation on why it makes sense that the Cardinals will not play their starters as well.

My biggest thing is that if the Cardinals are not playing in the third preseason game, not playing in the second preseason game after an extremely physical joint practice on Thursday doesn’t matter. We are literally nitpicking over two days of work difference.

So, if the plan has been to not play starters in game three, then there is no difference to me in not playing them after the joint practice.

Also, let’s be honest, there is not a whole lot of winning if they are playing the Broncos backups.

If the Cardinals starters are killing it, it is against Broncos backups, if they suck, then we all start the end is near countdown.

What are your thoughts?
